The Fall 2011 SMWCon was held on September 21–23, 2011 in Berlin, Germany. Following the success of the SMWCon Spring 2011, it will feature a similar three-day setup with an additional hands-on/tutorial day before the two conference days.
- Tutorial Day: Wednesday, Sept 21: tutorials and hands-on sessions
- Conference: Thursday, Sept 22. – Friday, Sept. 23: presentations and group discussions
As with the previous SMWCons, SMWCon Fall 2011 will include presentations and discussions about current applications and the future development of Semantic MediaWiki and its extensions and applications. Participants are invited to present their own work and to discuss experiences and ideas. While the conference will have scheduled presentations, each will encourage free discussion and a rapid exchange of ideas.
SMWCon has so far been a twice-yearly conference that brings together developers, users, and organizations from the Semantic MediaWiki community around the world. For more information, see SMWCon.

Lightning talks
The schedule will include an hour of lightning talks (each one around 5 minutes) on Thursday. To give a lightning talk, add your name and the title below:
- File:SMWConWikiAppIntro.pdf - this is a follow-up of ontoprise's proposal at the SMW user conference Spring 2011 to host a Wiki Application Repository and help the community to bundle and publish Wiki Applications. We will present a couple of new applications and give directions how to make bundles and how to use them. --User:Daniel Hansch 11:03, 15 August 2011 (CEST)
- File:SMWConDBpediaSpotlight.pdf. In this talk I wish to discuss how structured information on SMW can help to build better natural language processing applications such as DBpedia Spotlight, and how these applications can make it easier to add structured information to wikis. On the one hand, disambiguations, redirects, entity types and entity properties are invaluable to complement natural language text in several information extraction tasks such as entity linking and relationship extraction. On the other hand, results from these information extraction tasks can be employed as suggestion engines that help users to provide more complete and interconnected encyclopaedic knowledge. -- User:Pablo Mendes 16:40, 18 August 2011 (CEST)
- Spark - new MediaWiki extension that uses the Spark library to embed visualizations based on data obtained via SPARQL - Talk slides -- Jeroen De Dauw 17:53, 18 August 2011 (CEST)
- WhatLinksThere 2nd degree link visualization with circos (slides). User:Cariaso
- The MediaWiki ResourceLoader, and why it's awesome. Yaron Koren 13:54, 19 August 2011 (CEST)

Travel
Local transport
Public transit
Public transit runs in short intervals and is very affordable. The VBB system includes S, U and regional trains, trams, buses and even some ferryboats.
The system is organized into three zones A, B, C. The "AB" tickets encompass the official city boundary. Note that "ABC" is needed to go to and from Schönefeld Airport (SXF), however.
To find your way around the public transport system, please refer to http://www.fahrinfo-berlin.de/Fahrinfo/bin/query.bin/en?ld=0.1&
Buying and validating tickets
- Do not fall for the temptation of buying "used" tickets offered by strangers - in many cases, they are only good photocopies
- Tickets bought on S- and U-Bahn stations are sold in advance and must be validated for each ride (or daily for a day pass). You can do this using the yellow (U-Bahn) or red (S-Bahn) boxes. Failure to validate is the equivalent of not having a ticket.
- Trams and buses have validation boxes as well. However, if you buy the ticket on board, it will already have the date and time printed on it and thus doesn't need to be validated.
Fee summary (Berlin AB region)
- Single ride: 2,30 €
- 4 single rides: 8,20 €
- Day pass: 6,30 €
- 7-day pass: 27,20 €
There are special tourist packages (CityTourCard/WelcomeCard) with combined access to museums, however day or weekly tickets will be cheaper unless you plan to make extensive use of the museum discounts (more details)
Taxis
Taxi hires are available from:
- Würfelfunk - (+49) (0)800 CAB CALL (0800 2222255)
- TaxiFunk - (+49) (0)30 44 33 22
At the airport, make sure you queue up in the official line and do not accept unlicensed cars that may be offered to you in the waiting hall.
International
Berlin is very well connected internationally. Berlin has two major airports, the city airport Berlin-Tegel and Berlin-Schoenefeld, which is located close to Berlin. If you choose Berlin-Schoenefeld, please check local public transport options from the airport to your hotel upfront in case of your arriving time is between 11 PM and 4 AM.
The Berlin Main Station (Berlin-Hauptbahnhof) connects Berlin to other German and European cities by train.
